Dumped like rubbish at birth: a race against time to save 8 freezing kittens

On 4th April, in the US town of Seymour, a strange plastic bag was discovered in a supermarket car park.

Inside the bag were 8 tiny, newborn kittens.

The kittens still had their umbilical cords attached.

Freezing cold

The kittens' mother was nowhere to be seen. When they were found, the little animals were freezing cold, and the people who discovered them feared some were already dead. They were rushed to the Whiskers Pet Rescue centre.

Since the rescue, the authorities have confirmed that an investigation is underway. Abandoning helpless newborn kittens and leaving them to freeze to death is a serious act of animal cruelty, punishable by law.

A $5,000 reward

The non-profit organisation, Desmond's Army Animal Law Advocates, has offered a reward of up to $5,000 for any information about who abandoned them.

Rescuers at Whiskers Pet Rescue have set up a fundraiser with the help of the animal-loving community to cover the kittens' care. They are also looking for donations of feeding bottles to prepare for future emergency rescues.
