Tortoise shuns black and white cats for a reason that has left his owner speechless

In 2023, a tortoise named Nelly was rescued by the Feathers, Scales and Tails shelter in Westminster, Maryland, USA.

At the time, the poor tortoise was living in a home overcrowded with animals.

His rescuers gave him a healthy and comfortable space to live in.

A successful adoption

Nelly, who is a male tortoise, then found his forever home with his owner, Amy. Amy volunteers for the If Cats Ruled The World Feline Rescue, so Nelly is used to her fostering kittens in their home.

However, Nelly had never shown any particular interest in the foster kittens. That was until the day Amy brought home a ginger kitten... On that day, everything changed. Nelly went right up to the cat, Mac, and wouldn't leave his side. He even napped with him and shared his living space! When it came to black and white cats, however, Nelly still showed no interest at all...

A love for ginger cats

One day, Amy fostered a pregnant cat who gave birth to a ginger kitten, and she couldn't wait to see the tortoise's reaction. She wasn't disappointed! Nelly scurried over as fast as his little legs could carry him to sniff the new arrival.

It was love at first sight all over again: Nelly wouldn't leave the little cat's side. No one knows exactly why Nelly loves ginger cats so much, but one thing is for sure: his "obsession" with them has earned him many fans on social media, including us, of course!
