It was a call like many others they receive each year. As reported by The Dodo, the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana in the USA was contacted about a life-or-death emergency.
The emergency involved Dobby, a tiny puppy found in a cardboard box that had been left anonymously on a doorstep.
When volunteers opened the box, they found a skeletal puppy, collapsed and unable to even lift her head. The little dog's condition was so dire that they feared she wouldn't survive.
At just a few weeks old, Dobby was severely dehydrated and suffering from a serious skin infection.
A desperate fight for life
Dobby was immediately rushed to intensive care, where she received fluids, antibiotics and, most importantly, constant attention. The shelter team took turns around the clock, feeding her with a syringe and keeping her warm.
For the first 48 hours, her prognosis remained bleak. But then, a small sign changed everything: a tiny wag of her tail as one of the volunteers came to speak to her. It was the signal that Dobby wasn't ready to give up.
Against all odds, the treatment began to work. Within a few days, Dobby managed to stand on her own. Two weeks later, her fur started to grow back on her once-sore skin, and the light returned to her eyes.
A bright new beginning
Today, Dobby has joined a foster family where she is quietly continuing her recovery while she waits to find her forever home.
