The poor kittens were only a few days old.
The three tiny babies had been abandoned in a cardboard box.
A shocking discovery
On one side of the box, a handwritten note read: ”Free kittens. Please help yourself.” Passers-by who spotted the kittens on the side of the road immediately called the rescuers at King’s Harvest Pet Rescue.
When they arrived, the rescuers were heartbroken to find the kittens were so young they couldn't even open their eyes. They were also furious with the people who had put the kittens in such danger. The tiny animals could have frozen to death, been run over, or fallen into the wrong hands...
Fighting for their lives
The rescuers knew that to give the kittens the best chance of survival, they needed a foster mother. So, they called their partners at the Quad City Animal Welfare Center. The team there immediately agreed to take the kittens in and found them a foster cat mum.
Sadly, one of the three kittens was too weak and passed away. The other two survived and have now been named O'Rourke and Hennessy. For now, the rescuers are doing everything they can to care for them. They hope the pair will grow strong and healthy so they can eventually join their forever families.
