The story of Phoenix is one for the books. When he was taken in by an overcrowded council shelter, a severely fractured jaw meant he was facing a death sentence.
The shelter simply couldn't afford the costly surgery he needed. They had no other choice but to put him on the list to be put down.
"He was curled up at the back of his cage, unable to eat, but he was still seeking human contact," recalls one of the volunteers who was there that day. "It was heartbreaking to know his time was running out."
A last-minute rescue
With only minutes to spare before he was due to be put down, a local animal welfare charity, alerted by a desperate social media post, decided to step in. In record time, a volunteer driver was dispatched to collect the cat.
Thanks to the generosity of strangers, Phoenix was transferred to a specialist veterinary clinic for his operation.
A remarkable recovery
Just a few days after the procedure, he was able to eat again, showing an extraordinary will to live.
Today, Phoenix's jaw is almost completely healed. He's a little four-legged miracle who proves that sometimes, life really does hang by a thread.
