So when she agreed to foster a pooch named Ribbit, she thought it would only be a temporary stay.
But fate had other plans.
A heartbreaking surrender
Ribbit had been surrendered to a shelter in Florida by her previous family. They told the rescue staff they were moving and "could no longer care for the dog". Megan agreed to take the pooch in. The rescue centre gave her all the information they had on Ribbit: the sweet dog was around four years old, had been with her previous family for two years, and had been adopted through a Facebook ad.
Megan was in for a huge shock when she logged into the online portal for Ribbit's microchip. She discovered that the dog's original name was Lily and, more importantly, her real date of birth. This meant the dog was actually eight years old, making her a senior rather than the young dog she was believed to be.
A forever home
Megan wasn't at all unhappy that the dog was eight. She just wished she'd had the correct information from the start, especially so she could pass it on to the vet for the dog's care.
Megan decided to adopt Ribbit and give her a forever home. The little dog is now a cherished member of the family. She loves playing with Archer, the family's other pooch, and chasing the many wild animals in the garden, like lizards!
