Family finds abandoned dog in their garden: the handwritten note leaves rescuers stunned

In January, a family in Darlington, England, couldn't believe their eyes when they saw what was waiting for them in their garden.

The family doesn't own a dog, yet they were certain they could see a grey and white dog lying in their garden.

Someone had abandoned their dog there... and had left them a note of explanation.

A heartbreaking note

The note from the dog's former family read: "I'm sorry for leaving my dog Queenie in your garden, but I can no longer look after her. Please take care of her. She is very sweet at home, loves to play with her plastic bone and watch TV with you. She has never been around children or other dogs. But she is a very affectionate dog. Please take care of her."

The family immediately took Queenie to the Darlington County Humane Society (DCHS). The rescuers mentioned that in all the abandonment cases they had seen, this was the first time a former owner had written a letter.

A frightened dog

Queenie looked around the shelter with very frightened eyes. The rescuers could see that she was a very affectionate dog, just as the note said, but she was also very nervous. Once she was in her kennel, Queenie lay down on her bed and began to tremble all over.

The rescuers promised to help her overcome her fears. Gradually, the dog began to slowly adjust to the shelter and the other dogs. Little by little, she started to greet the rescuers and visitors and even began to enjoy playtime with the other dogs.

In the video below, you can see the wonderful progress the dog has made as she plays and has fun with the other dogs at the shelter. We hope Queenie finds a loving and patient family very soon.
