In 2017, Winchester, one of their rescue dogs, was adopted by a family.
The rescuers believed Winchester's adoption would be for life...
A heartbreaking surrender
But sadly, things didn't go as planned. In early March 2026, the dog was dropped off at DuPage County Animal Services without the rescue centre's knowledge. Winchester had been surrendered with a note from his family, explaining they could no longer care for him due to a very difficult situation they were facing.
In the note, his family also asked that Winchester be given plenty of love. They had left a tiny dog outfit with him. The rescuers wrote a Facebook post to explain they had no way of intervening to prevent this, and that the poor dog had been suddenly torn away from the only home and routine he had known for the past 8 years.
Looking for a new home
The rescuers, of course, went to the pound as quickly as possible to collect him. Winchester is a very affectionate and gentle dog. He has since found a foster family to look after him while he waits for his next home.
In the Facebook post, the rescuers stated: "This sweet boy has done nothing wrong. He deserves stability, kindness, and patience, especially after losing everything familiar to him." We wish Winchester the very best in finding his forever family soon.
