Marigold might not know it, but she's just given birth to a world record-breaking litter!
On 2nd January, the Irish Doodle gave birth to 17 puppies, the largest litter for the breed since 2019. The previous record was held by a dog named Amelia, who had 16 puppies.
A 13-hour labour
Marigold's owners were there for the birth of the adorable puppies. The labour lasted a total of 13 hours, leaving the poor mum completely exhausted.
The brave dog's family wondered when the delivery would ever end. Even when the 17th puppy arrived, they weren't sure if it was the last one. They knew the litter would be large, but they never expected this many!
A special diet to keep her strong
To help Marigold through this huge effort, her owners gave her all the food she needed. In total, Marigold needed 12 tins of food a day to keep her strength up and produce enough milk for her babies.
The new mum has now regained her strength, and all the puppies are in excellent health. Marigold's family has already received many adoption enquiries for the puppies. The little ones will be sold for around £1,300. We hope they all find loving homes very soon.
