On the evening of 26th January, police in Austin, USA, received a call about some kittens locked in a cage in the snow.

The situation was extremely urgent.

In the days leading up to this terrible abandonment, there had been a snowstorm and temperatures were freezing.

Without food or water

When they arrived at the scene, police officers found the eight kittens huddled together without any food or water. The poor little things were trying to keep warm as best they could. Rescuers immediately moved the kittens, taking them to the warmth and safety of a local shelter as quickly as possible.

For now, the kittens are settling in at the shelter. They appear to be in good health, despite their terrible ordeal in the cold. The rescuers have said that the kittens will be put up for adoption once the police have finished their investigation into who abandoned them.

Investigation underway

In their post on the social media platform X, the police made a special appeal. They have asked anyone with information to come forward, as animal abandonment is a criminal offence under Austin's city ordinances.

Social media users were quick to show their support in the comments. One person wrote: ”It's truly sad that people need to be reminded not to treat living beings like rubbish. Thank you for saving them from the cold.” Another added: ”Thank you for saving these adorable kittens. It's time all acts of animal cruelty were considered crimes.” We wish the kittens all the best for the future.
