In a rural shelter in North Carolina, two Golden Retriever puppies experienced one of the cruellest forms of abandonment. They were rejected by their breeder simply because they couldn't walk.
It all began when a local shelter contacted Forgotten, Now Family Rescue, an organisation founded by Chrissy Elder, to report the arrival of two puppies who were unable to stand.
A challenging diagnosis
The puppies were suffering from 'swimmer puppy syndrome', a condition where their legs splay out to the sides instead of supporting them, making it virtually impossible for them to walk.
To help them, an intensive rehabilitation programme was designed to strengthen their weak limbs, combining physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, and the use of supportive splints.
A remarkable recovery
Day by day, with patience and determination, Blanche and Dorothy began to straighten their legs, stand up, and eventually take their first steps.
Today, these two puppies, once abandoned because of their disability, are enjoying active and joyful lives.
