In her career as a rescuer, she has seen countless dogs with matted fur.
But she had never encountered a case quite like Gracie Mae's.
Her hidden secret
Gracie Mae's fur was so matted that it had formed a solid mass of knots. You couldn't even see her eyes or her muzzle. Sadly, her elderly owner was no longer able to care for her. She had just a few days to leave her home and move into a care home.
One of the lady's neighbours offered to help find a new home for 9-year-old Gracie Mae. The veterinary team sedated the dog so they could shave off all her fur. Once she was completely shaved, the team discovered that she was well-fed and had no scars on her body.
A new life
When Gracie Mae opened her eyes, she discovered a whole new world she could now explore freely, without pounds of fur blocking her sight and smell. The check-up revealed that the dog was actually much younger than the vets had been told: Gracie Mae was only 4 years old!
The dog's behaviour changed completely, and she started playing with newfound energy. The brave little dog has since been adopted by a gentleman and now never leaves his side. She wears little jumpers to keep warm, and she absolutely loves her new life. We are delighted that this adoption has been such a wonderful success!
