A volunteer who was walking one of the shelter's dogs witnessed a terrible act of abandonment.
He saw a car pull over and leave a cardboard box on the roadside right outside the shelter.
A family of cats
Inside the box were three adult cats, two adolescents, and five kittens – a whole family of ten. The rescuers noticed straight away that the cats had been well cared for. They were healthy, well-fed, and had glossy coats.
The rescuers also noted that the cats were used to human contact and were very friendly. In a Facebook post, they thanked their volunteer for being in the right place at the right time while walking the dog. Without his intervention, the cats would likely not have survived on their own.
Safe and sound
Thankfully, the entire little family is now safe and sound. The rescuers explained that three of the kittens have been placed in a foster home with a nursing mother cat, and the other two are with another mum. Everyone is doing well.
The rescuers stated that they do not judge anyone or the circumstances that may lead to such an abandonment. However, they wanted to remind the public that they are there to help families in need and that solutions are available to help animals before resorting to such an act.
