Indeed, temperatures dropped as low as -9°C.
In this freezing weather, a passer-by spotted a litter of puppies huddled together on the front porch of a house.
An urgent rescue
The person immediately reported the situation to the Heart of America Humane Society. When rescuers arrived at the scene, they were heartbroken. The mother dog was sitting on top of her puppies, trying to keep them warm. The puppies themselves were crying at the front door, and the rescuers could hear them before they even got out of their van.
A neighbour told the shelter's rescuers that animal control officers had already visited the address earlier that week. The rescuers contacted animal control, who returned to the scene. An officer then spoke with the dogs' owner. After a brief discussion, the owner agreed to surrender the puppies and their mother to the shelter.
Warm at last
Miraculously, only one puppy was suffering from hypothermia. But thanks to the care provided by the rescuers, he made a full recovery. After receiving all the necessary vaccinations and deworming treatments, the puppies were placed in loving foster homes.
The good news is that all the puppies have now been adopted into their forever homes! Only their mother is still waiting for her family. Hopefully, she will find a warm and loving home very soon.
