In the United States, an American woman was deeply moved when she discovered a thoughtful gesture from the staff at the veterinary clinic that had supported her dog through his final days.
As reported by Newsweek, Janette Mochnacz's beloved pet, Sprocket, had been part of her family for 15 years.
After the sudden death of her mother in 2019, Sprocket became a comforting presence for Janette and her husband.
Sadly, Sprocket's health began to decline over the years. Aware of her beloved dog's significant health problems, the difficult decision was made to end his suffering in January 2024.
”It was incredibly difficult, not only because we loved him so much, but also because he was the last living part of my mum,” she explained.
A difficult goodbye
In his final days, Janette wanted to spoil him with all his favourite foods, including chicken nuggets and steak. With the help of a specialised team, he was put to sleep as peacefully as possible.
”Every word came from the heart”
A few days after Sprocket passed away, Janette received a sympathy card, handwritten and signed by every member of staff who had cared for her dog over the years. ”What surprised me most was that it wasn't just a card. You could feel that every word came from the heart,” she said.
Janette decided to share her reaction on her TikTok account, moving thousands of viewers. With this video, she hopes that more veterinary clinics will do the same. It's a small gesture that can help an owner begin to grieve.
