A heartbreaking discovery
In the United States, staff at a cat café and rescue centre were shocked to discover two cats, Lilith and Sweet Pea, left outside in their carriers.
The staff then found a note attached to the carriers, explaining that the owner had become homeless and could no longer care for their beloved pets.
“It’s a sad, sad situation”
Reading the message deeply moved the staff, with some brought to tears by the distressing words.
But while the owner's intentions were clearly full of love, the experience was traumatic for the cats. Lilith became very withdrawn, refusing all contact and showing semi-feral behaviours. Meanwhile, Sweet Pea, who is more sociable, sometimes reacts unpredictably and is wary of being petted.
In a post on the Philadelphia Urgent Rescue and Relief Facebook page, volunteers wrote: “It’s a sad, sad situation. Right now, what these cats need most is compassion, patience, and a quiet environment.” The post was widely shared to help the two cats.
It is hoped that the cats will quickly find a loving home where they can recover from their ordeal.
