This is a story shared on the social media site Reddit that could easily have ended in tragedy. It’s about Cricket, a one-and-a-half-year-old Golden Retriever who was adopted by his owner a year ago.
When he was just six months old, the puppy was trampled by a cow, his owner explained in a post under the username u/1-800-no-one-asked.
“My heart skipped a beat”
“I wasn't planning on getting a dog, but when I heard his story, my heart just skipped a beat,” the owner shared.
The dog was described as having a peculiar walk and some neurological issues from the accident. A breeder offered him to his new owner for just $100, as with no one else willing to take him, he was considering having the pup put to sleep.
A lasting impact
Cricket weighs around 40 pounds, which is well below the standard for a Golden Retriever. A severe injury before a dog's first birthday can permanently stunt their growth.
