Sadly, their beloved dog, Mellow, passed away from old age.
The whole family was heartbroken. But for 21-year-old Emilie, the loss was particularly painful.
A special bond
She was only six years old when Mellow joined the family, and she was especially close to him. They had their little rituals: every night before bed, Mellow would snuggle up to Emilie, and she would tell him all about her day and her hopes for the next. A loyal companion, Mellow was always there to listen and would comfort her whenever she needed it.
As he got older, Mellow's health began to decline. His body grew weaker and his eyesight started to fade. But that changed nothing for Emilie; she still took him everywhere with her and continued to share stories about her life with him.
Daily visits
After he passed away, Mellow was laid to rest in the family garden, beneath a headstone and a heart-shaped statue. But Emilie's bond with her faithful companion wasn't broken. Every day, she visits his grave to tell him all about her day.
Recently, while mowing the lawn near Mellow's grave, Emilie and Marie's father made a touching discovery: two footprints worn into the grass right by the headstone. Emilie visits her beloved dog so often that she has left a permanent mark on the ground. It seems that saying goodnight to Mellow, just as she did when he was alive, brings her great comfort. It's a beautiful testament to the fact that Mellow's presence is still felt by his family, and most of all by Emilie.
