While walking her dog along a wooded path in Pennsylvania, a woman recently noticed something strange. Her dog wouldn't stop anxiously sniffing at a particular pile of leaves. She knew there must be an animal hiding inside, but what could it be?
Intrigued, the woman decided to take a closer look, and it was a good thing she did.
A successful rescue
As she got closer, the woman immediately noticed a rustling in the leaves. The creature was almost completely hidden in the pile. She knelt down and discovered an owl: a Great Horned Owl.
Unsure of what to do, the woman sent photos of the owl to the Raven Ridge Wildlife Center. The rescuers saw the pictures and knew they had to act fast.
The volunteers arrived quickly on the scene and took the owl into their care. They needed to get it to safety so they could examine it more closely and find out what was wrong.
A worrying condition
The rescuers quickly became concerned about the owl's condition. It was shivering, seemed unresponsive, and felt cold and dazed. They placed it in a warm incubator and gave it medication and fluids to rehydrate it.
And it worked! After some time and care, the bird was back on its feet. It was a wonderful success for the entire team.
