Maternal instinct is one of nature’s strongest forces, and for one street dog in Thailand, it has proved life-saving.

Shadow, a homeless dog, recently gave birth to six puppies and has worked tirelessly to keep them safe and well, despite the exhausting conditions of life on the streets.

Her story was shared by Niall Harbison, founder of the rescue group Happy Doggo.

Hard-working mum

In a video posted to Instagram, Shadow’s puppies can be seen lapping milk while viewers are told just how hard their mother is working. “Only mothers will know how hard this street dog is working,” read the on-screen caption.

Harbison explained that although Shadow is visibly drained, she never stops caring for her litter. Each day she feeds them, washes them and ensures they are protected. While some dogs adapt to life in a home, others, like Shadow, are more comfortable in the open, so Happy Doggo is providing support where she lives.

Strength and devotion

“She’s incredibly tired, but her resilience is the reason all six puppies are alive,” Harbison said.

Thanks to her devotion and a little outside help, Shadow’s puppies appear healthy and thriving, a testament to their mother’s strength and devotion.

Well done, Shadow!
