This American couple is very proud of the Guinness World Record they received for the world's longest tail.

The Guinness Book of Records makes headlines every year.

The 2018 edition features an 80-year-old bodybuilder, a woman with XXL eyelashes and the cat with the longest tail in the world.

Cat with the longest tail in the world

The cat in question is named Cygnus Regulus Powers. She is a silver-coloured Maine Coon from Michigan in the USA, where she's been living with her family since she was adopted in 2015.

She holds the record for the domestic cat with the longest tail in the world, as it is an astonishing 44.66 centimetres (17.6 inches) long! She also goes by the name feather duster.

Largest domestic cat in the world

Cygnus' brother, Arcturus Aldebaran Powers, is a Savannah cat who also holds a world record. Indeed, he is the largest domestic cat in the world, at 48.4 centimetres tall (19.06 inches).

Neither cat has let their success go to their heads. They get on brilliantly and love to play with each other.

Record-breaking cats almost didn't make it

Cygnus and Arcturus used to live in Farmington Hills with their owners and two other cat siblings. Sadly, their house caught fire in November 2017. Cygnus and Arcturus were able to escape through windows that their owners had left open, but their two other cat siblings, Yuki and Sirius, were never to be found. Their owners believe they escaped the fire but simply ran away in fear.

Who knew that the two surviving cats would then become world record breakers!
