Cat weight loss advice

Our vet has recently told us that our cat is very overweight, so we've adjusted her portion sizes accordingly. But I was wondering if there is anything I can do to encourage her to exercise. She is an indoor cat and whilst she does have a harness and lead, I'm a bit apprehensive about taking her out as I've read and heard so much conflicting information as to whether cats actually enjoy being walked or whether it's actually a stressful experience for them.
She has plenty of small toys that she does run around with (like mice, balls etc.) and we've started putting her dry food in one of those treat dispensing ball things where she has to play with it to get the food out - but is there anything else I can buy specifically? Or is there anything I can do to encourage her to be more active?

thanks in advance!

Encouraging your cat to exercise can be challenging but here are some tips:

1. Interactive Toys: Laser pointers, feather wands, and electronic toys that mimic prey movement can be very engaging.
2. Climbing and Scratching Posts: Cat trees and scratching posts encourage climbing and jumping.
3. Puzzle Feeders: Continue with treat-dispensing toys, but also try other types of puzzle feeders to make mealtime more active.
4. Playtime Routine: Establish a regular playtime routine to ensure she gets enough exercise daily.
5. Cat Tunnels and Boxes: These can stimulate her curiosity and encourage more movement.

Remember to be patient and consistent. If you decide to try the harness and leash, introduce it slowly and in a safe environment. Good luck!
