Why does my cat follow me everywhere but ignore others?

My cat follows me from room to room and always wants to sit near me, but completely ignores other family members. If someone else calls him, he doesn’t respond at all.
Is this normal bonding behaviour, or could it be separation anxiety? He seems relaxed and playful otherwise.
Has anyone experienced something similar? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

    Hi James,

What you’re describing sounds very much like normal bonding behaviour rather than separation anxiety, with some cats forming a particularly strong attachment to one human. If your cat is otherwise not showing any distress related behaviour (like vocalising, destructive behaviour, excessive scratching or inappropriate toileting) when you're out of sight, this is a good sign that they have just chosen you. Following you and choosing to sit with you may just be an indication of social bonding and feeling safe in your presence.

I have known some cats be very specific about who they choose to spend time with - effectively choosing their person. If your cat seems relaxed and playful otherwise, it sounds as if this may be the case!
