Strange behaviour after flea worm treatment

Our vet gave our 15 year old ginger Tom a new flea worm treatment. 24 hours later he started strange behaviour, vacant, wandering and crying, not following any routine. Now two weeks later he is very unsettled, constantly wanting to go out then back in , not following his usual feeding routine. Anyone had similar problems.

I know with my older cat, any sudden changes like that would really worry me. The timing after the new flea and worm treatment does feel a bit concerning, even if it’s not the cause.

But two weeks is a long time for things not to settle, and the crying, wandering and seeming unsettled don’t sound quite right. Older cats can be much more sensitive to treatments or it could be something else going on that just happened to show up at the same time.

If it were my cat, I’d go back to the vet and explain exactly what’s been happening since the treatment. You know his normal routine best, and it sounds like he’s not himself at all. Hopefully, you can get some answers and get him more comfortable again.

This may be related to side effects from medication, stress, or age-related changes in the nervous system. It is recommended that you consult a veterinarian to check for and rule out other causes. Your cat may need support to relieve stress and recover.
