How Can I Improve My Cat’s Daily Routine?

Hi everyone,

I want to improve my cat’s daily lifestyle. He spends most of the day sleeping and sometimes looks bored. I try to play with him, but I’m not sure if it’s enough.

What are some simple ideas to keep a cat mentally active and happy at home? Do you follow a fixed routine for feeding and playtime?

    Hi James, 

    For an indoor cat specifically, environmental enrichment is especially important and there are lots of way you can offer this even if they live indoors only. I’d suggest creating a vertical space with shelves or a tall cat tree - you can also try setting up a window perch so your cat can safely look outside. Food puzzles or slow feeders are great for indoor cats because they turn mealtime into mental enrichment. You can also try some treat trails, involving high value treats placed a few cm apart to encourage sniffing and exploring.     A fixed routine in terms of feeding and play can also be really helpful as it offers a sense of predictability and safety.
