The title says it all: my little monster has eaten a sanitary towel, plastic wrapper and all.
As soon as I realised, I called the vet. We've got an appointment in 2 hours for an examination and an ultrasound.
Given the size of the thing compared to my girl, and what it's made of, the vet surgery doesn't recommend waiting for it to pass like other small items might, and they want to examine her before advising on what to do.
So here I am, worried sick, just waiting for the appointment time to roll around. It happened during the night, so it's too late to induce vomiting. I'm not really sure what's going to happen next.
As for how on earth she got her paws on the pad, let's just say my sister will definitely be sleeping out on the porch tonight.
I'd be grateful for any info on pets swallowing similar objects, especially if you've got any reassuring stories!

Well... the towel incident has at least uncovered a more serious problem, but what a fright and what an absolute nightmare! I just hope the vets finally manage to get to the bottom of it and sort out the little one's tummy!
Basically, they think this mystery chronic illness makes his tummy sensitive to begin with, and the towel was the final straw, so his gut just can't seem to recover because, well, yucky towel.
It’s a bit complicated; these specialists really struggle to explain their findings in layman's terms...
I hope they’ve found something this morning so we can head off on holiday with peace of mind, once we have a treatment plan.
What’s stressing me out is the not knowing; I really hope they’ve found something so we finally have some answers!
Oh dear!
So the towel situation couldn't have anything to do with the condition after all? Phew, it’s really draining, isn’t it; I can imagine how much you’re struggling, but everything’s being done to get to the bottom of it.
Hang in there! 🙂
Right then...
I was hoping I wouldn't have to bump this thread again, but it seems Minnie is being difficult!
No real progress for two weeks; we've tried several treatments to no avail.
Alongside all the medical trial and error, I’ve tried quite a few things with her food, but there’s been no improvement.
Given how long this has been going on and the treatments we’ve tried, they don’t think it’s a bacterial infection or a foreign body. They’re leaning towards a chronic condition, but there are loooooooads that could cause these symptoms, so we’re ruling them out one by one.
Minnie stayed at the clinic this morning with the internal medicine specialist and the head of ultrasound, along with a third colleague who’s highly regarded by their peers (that’s quite a crowd for such a tiny tummy).
They were going to brainstorm and then run some tests. They’ve been mentioning an endoscopy for several weeks now, but each time they've decided it wasn't necessary.
I was supposed to pick her up at lunchtime, but in the end, she can’t come home until this evening after the vets have spoken to me. I don’t know anything more than that.
I have to wait until 5 pm. I suppose if they want to talk to me, it’s because they’ve found something. Which would mean we’ll finally be able to give her some relief; the poor thing must have such a sore tummy...
Anyway, I'm just stewing in my own stress until 5 pm...
Hi Tityswood, at least things seem to be heading in the right direction. I hope she’s back on track soon and starts doing some champion poos for you, the little furbaby.
A bit more of a waiting game for now, but hang in there!
After a day and a half on antibiotics, we’ve had the first poo that’s "not as bad as the others" in a long time. I’m so relieved.
Just so you know @Misanthrope, I’d thought about going all the way to the specialist referral hospital, but the vet at my local clinic is actually an ‘internal medicine specialist’ from there anyway (for the last two consultations). So I figured going there wouldn't really add much!
I hope my little monster keeps this up, I can finally see light at the end of the tunnel. Fingers crossed. Anyway, I’ve never been so happy to pick up a poo!
Funny little side note, her tummy has been messed up for so long that I’ve been taking photos of every poo to document the issue and keep track of what’s happening and when. If anyone ever looks through the photos on my phone, they’ll think I’m a total nutter!
