Herma is a medium sized crossbreed aged around seven years old. Passed Cat Testing. NEEDS a resident dog in forever home. Children dog savvy and respectful aged 10+ Herma came to Safe Rescues on a trip to the Botosani public shelter in Romania. A fight broke out and Herma was found being attacked by all the other dogs. The attack saved her life because it got her noticed among the 900 dogs there and secured her ticket out. Herma has taken a while to prepare for adoption, she recently moved to a much quieter foster home to help her progress further. This is what her foster mum has to say. Herma is a real sweetheart! Despite finding the world very scary, she always puts her best foot(paw) forward and tries so hard to be involved and show affection, how very brave! I have never met such a trier. Herma loves to be on the sofa with us and really enjoys a fuss once she is settled and comfy, she also comes upstairs at night to sleep on the landing and keep an eye on us all. Despite making huge progress on walks, Herma still lacks confidence around traffic and people, this will improve further with practice but she will still need to live in a quiet and calm area. She is not reactive at all and she does not pull, she just cowers. Herma relies on the other dogs in her foster home and will need at least one other dog as full time resident in her forever home. She is extremely calm and polite with other dogs, she has been asking the dogs in her foster home to play but they are not interested, so she plays quietly by herself with pillows when she thinks no-one is watching. Herma currently lives with a cat in her foster home whom she completely ignores. Herma’s spay revealed that she is in fact intersex (i.e. has both female and male organs), whilst this is incredibly rare, medically she is well and it causes her no issues. I like to think it makes her doubly special. Herma has come so far and is ready to move onto the next phase of her life, that said she will still need an understanding adult family experienced with nervous dogs. Herma needs someone to love her for the kind soul that she is, and let her advance at her own pace. That person will be rewarded with a loyal and affectionate companion who always tries their best. Herma has passed her cat testing.

Herma fostered Royston Hertfordshire.

Adoption Terms & Conditions

When you adopt a Safe Rescue dog, you MUST use a slip lead. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period. Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure. The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm. Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer. Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs. Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a secure metal crate. Fences and gates must be 5foot minimum in height and secure.
