What to do about the neighbour’s cat coming in and stealing my cat’s dry food?

Hi everyone,

The neighbour’s cat keeps coming into my house and eating all of my cat’s dry food. I live in the countryside, where all the cats are allowed outdoors. My cat is a neutered male Turkish Angora, and the other cat is a grey tabby, a fairly common type (I don't know the breed). I’m not sure if she’s been spayed. The problem is she’s clearing me out of dry food, and my cat doesn't dare go near her because she hisses at him, so she’s basically taking over. My cat is coming home less often now, and I’m worried he isn’t eating enough either. What can I do to get the other cat to stay away?

Hi there, You can also get feeders that only open when they detect your cat’s registered microchip and close again once they move away. Have a look online for SureFeed microchip feeders. This is a great solution as it lets you leave your doors or windows open; even if an intruder gets in, they won’t be able to nick any food. Best regards

Hi there, I agree with the previous reply; a microchip cat flap will stop other cats from getting into your home. You could also try putting the dry food in a less accessible room, further away from the door to the outside. Hope this helps, Mazarine

Fancy a dog ringtone to download to your phone and play through a Bluetooth speaker? 😁 https://lasonotheque.org/UPLOAD/mp3/0112.mp3 Be careful not to frighten your cat! There are plenty more on that same site!

A smart cat flap that works with your cat's microchip?

Hi there, A garden hose or a water pistol will be your best weapons if you catch her in the act. You’ll need to stay hidden though, because if she associates you with getting soaked, she’ll likely just wait until you’re not around to go back in there... It’s worth letting the neighbours know as well, so they don’t get worried if the kitty comes home soaking wet! 😉
