Cat weak 3 days after being spayed

Hi, my cat was spayed about 3-4 days ago. She spent the first three nights at the vet's. When I brought her back on Saturday evening she seemed a bit traumatised and weak, which I thought was normal. She was coming to sleep on my lap and was still eating a little bit.

But today she seems even weaker than yesterday. She's limping and her back left leg trembles when she walks. She won't eat anything at all now and spends the whole day sleeping :'( I'm getting quite worried. Please let me know what I can do to get her to eat.

Thanks

I'm so sorry about your cat, I really hope she makes a full recovery. I don't have much advice for her legs, other than waiting for the injection to wear off and for the muscle to 'heal' itself. I hope the vet didn't mess anything up; there was someone else on the forum whose cat ended up half-paralysed because of an intramuscular injection of a product that wasn't meant to be given that way. Try not to be too stressed; animals are like sponges and they pick up on everything. Give her plenty of time to recover and feed her wet food to keep her hydrated. Make sure she doesn't overexert herself to avoid any issues with her spay scar.

Where are you all, ladies? I’m feeling so lonely. I really need some moral support. No one understands you quite as well as a fellow cat owner.

He gave her an intramuscular injection on the right side... so now she’s limping on both legs... Honestly, I feel so sorry for my poor girl and the incompetence of some vets.

I've just got back from the vet. He told me the limp is down to an intramuscular injection of a medication that's a bit of an irritant, and that it’ll clear up. As for the drops of blood coming from her vagina, he’s certain it’s not an infection as she doesn't have the symptoms. He gave her an injection of steroids -_- and antibiotics (like every vet does for every single thing). Anyway... if she’s not doing better within a week, I’ll go to a different vet. Please pray for my little girl.

I think it’s just so UNFAIR, my cat was perfectly healthy. And the vet has sent her home with a limp!! The poor thing wants to play and come over to us but she doesn’t dare walk because of the pain!! I hope he’s going to actually admit it’s his fault è_é. Should I demand that the treatment for her leg is free of charge?

Personally, my cat was fine for a few hours after he was neutered, but then it was the same thing—he stopped eating and lost quite a bit of weight. He was throwing up everything he ate. The vet said it was gastritis caused by the anaesthetic; he gave him a jab and some tummy meds, and he gradually got better. He’s put the weight back on now and is doing fine, so it might be the same for yours. I hope it’s nothing serious, all the best!

How old is Luna? I’d suggest writing down all the questions that come to mind, as well as the ones we’ve asked here. So, does the price include the op, the three days of post-op care, plus meds and so on? In Belgium, spaying a female cat costs around £85. That’s without meds. And they don’t usually stay in post-op unless they have a chronic illness or a history of complications when coming round from anaesthesia. I assume this vet has their own surgery? I also wanted to say, please don’t leave her alone for too long while she’s feeling poorly, you never know what might happen. Luna needs you there right now. Thank you. Lots of love to Luna! gigi397

My cat was spayed and never bled from her vagina or her wound, and it was the same for the one I rescued off the street who’d just been dumped after having a flank spay. He’s the professional after all, but the whole thing still seems a bit odd to me.

He’s just got back to me. He told me the bleeding is normal because the uterus is going to start to atrophy... but I’m going to bombard him with questions tomorrow.

Considering she’s been in season for over a month now... do you think it’s just because of her heat? Or even worse, endometritis :( I live out in the sticks... it's impossible to get to the vet right now. But I’ve left them a message and I’ll be there first thing tomorrow morning.
