Yes, totally free!
Farfalla, to be honest I was looking for a word other than "repellent", but I couldn't think of one, so I just went with what was in my head... I don't really know what else to call the stuff...
Anyway, I didn't explain myself very well; what I mainly meant was that she could try spraying some FELIWAY, as it’s effective against scratching and urine marking, which is the problem here.
Feliway is absolutely not a repellent, quite the opposite!
Aaah... Lemon Fairy Liquid... (not a sponsored ad)!
Apart from the fact it keeps cats away, as @Drwatson mentioned, it also keeps the greenfly out of the garden! Spray it on your rose bushes (mixed with milk, I think) and that's the end of the aphids!
Always keep some lemon washing-up liquid handy! And as an added bonus, it can even be used to do the dishes. It’s brilliant!
i know cats are scared of tin foil
Er, okay, pepper and citrus fruits, most cats (not all) hate those smells, but tin foil? No. The crinkling sound of foil being scrunched up might be unpleasant, sure, but otherwise a roll or a sheet of it has never really scared cats.
In fact, scrunched into a ball, it provides hours of fun!
A more practical solution is to properly clean the spot where the cat is marking its territory using white vinegar (to disinfect and remove the smell), followed by some washing-up liquid, like Fairy Liquid.
If you find the cat keeps at it, you could invest in a repellent spray like Feliway. Mind you, I’m a bit skeptical about how well it would work outdoors, what with the weather and everything. I’m not sure if you’d have to keep reapplying it constantly.
Something to think about.
Whatever you do, don't clean your wall with bleach – it actually encourages cats to do their business there!
I know cats are scared of aluminium foil, so try putting some on your wall to see if he stops, and if it works, you can take the foil down.
What I’d suggest is giving the wall a really good clean, putting some pepper on it (cats hate the smell of pepper), and then taping a big sheet of aluminium foil over it.
Let us know how you get on!
There are a few things you can put on your door. I know they don't like lemon or white vinegar. Definitely don't use bleach, though, as cats actually love the stuff. Maybe others will have some more suggestions for you.
