Need help: My cat is biting her nipples?

Evening all,

For a few days now, I’ve noticed my 1-year-old cat’s nipples have been looking redder than usual; they’re bleeding as if they’ve been chewed or nibbled. At first, I thought a kitten might have been trying to nurse from her, mistaking her for its mum, but when I got home from work tonight I saw her licking them obsessively. It seems to be getting worse and it’s not just around her nipples anymore... I’ve attached some photos...

She is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. I last gave her flea and worming treatment 3 months ago.

Obviously, I’ll book a vet appointment if it’s serious, but being a student, I don't want to go for nothing, especially knowing they won’t shy away from charging me about £60 even if it turns out to be "nothing serious"...

Anyway, I’d love to get your opinions—has this ever happened to your cats?

Need help: My cat is biting her nipples?

    Hi,

Looking at the photos, I think only a trip to the vet will be able to clear this mystery up. There are all sorts of skin conditions in cats; they're often not serious, but they do need treating. The fact that she’s been spayed is a real positive, so I’d say the risk of mammary cancer is quite unlikely.

Sorry about the typos at the start. It must be bothering her; there must be something going on.

Could be an allergy or some kind of illness, I’m not sure. Have you changed her bedding at all? Maybe it’s that, or even the dry air. I’m just thinking out loud really, just some guesses.

My previous cat was spayed and never did anything like that. I hope you manage to find out what’s wrong.

    GOOD EVENING

If she's doing that, it's probably because something is wrong.

Why £60 for the consultation? It's usually around £30 and an ointment depends, but I'd say about £15, so...?

You can call the vet for advice; that's free, and they'll tell you if you need to come into the surgery. If it doesn't clear up, you'll have to go, and check if anything has changed in her environment too.

Since she's already spayed, that's good as it prevents certain diseases.

Good luck, I hope it clears up.
