Cat sick 2 days after being neutered

Evening all,

I'm posting here because I'm at my wits' end.

Basically, my cat, Oseille, was neutered last Friday, the 12th of July. Everything was fine when we got home, until he started being sick during the night.

It's now Sunday, and he's still throwing up whatever he eats. He hasn't drunk any water all day, either.

What should I do? Is this normal after being neutered? Could the change in food be a factor? The vet told me it's not 'normal' but nothing to be too alarmed about.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you all,

Have a lovely evening!!

Yes, stick with wet food for now as it provides extra hydration, which is far better than dry food.

From tomorrow, try to get hold of their old dry food again; there’s no massive rush to switch, and you’ll need a bit of the old stuff anyway to manage the transition properly.

If they’re still hungry, you can give them some lightly cooked meat or fish.

    Best regards

I’d been using Purina One Kitten (the pink bag), but the vet told me that it was those specific bits of dry food that were bad for him. The thing is, my cat has always been full of beans and never once threw up before this change of food... I’ve got a bit of Royal Canin wet food that the vet gave me; do you think he can eat that? I don’t have his old dry food anymore – I was told to stop giving it to him, so like an idiot I gave it all to a local rescue so it wouldn’t go to waste... (plus the shops are all shut at this hour haha)

Well, the vet gave me a bag of Royal Canin dry food for neutered cats... even though he was still on his food for kittens under 12 months. So I’m not sure if it’s related to the change in diet or the post-op... In my opinion, you should stop those new biscuits immediately. If you’ve got some, give him some wet food – it’s moist and will help rehydrate him to make up for the fluids lost from vomiting. If you don’t have any wet food, try something else he likes just this once, like tuna or ham etc. It’s really just to get him eating and see if he can keep anything down, so don’t give him large amounts or do it regularly. :) If you don’t have anything else, just go back to his usual dry food. If he’s still sick despite stopping the new food, it’s time to head straight back to the vet. :)

How old is your cat exactly? (I'm guessing around 6 months?)

That’s exactly the problem. Your vet is a total ******* who wants to feed your cat absolute shite that’s just going to kill him slowly. Sorry for the bluntness, but I’m honestly sick of seeing this profession ripping off people like you and me. Don’t change his diet just like that; you should have done a proper food transition anyway. Tell us what he was eating until now and we’ll give you some advice. As for the Royal Canin, just chuck it in the bin. Best regards.

Well, the vet gave me a bag of Royal Canin dry food for sterilised cats... even though he was still on his food for kittens under 12 months.

So, I’m not sure if it’s down to the change in food or the post-op...

What exactly do you mean by a change in diet?
