Bleeding after being spayed??

Hi everyone,

After asking you for advice on my dog's post-op care, I’m back today about my cat.

She was spayed this morning and we put her upstairs (she wouldn’t have had any peace with my dog around), but the little monkey came back down almost straight away. Since her food is kept up high, she jumped onto the kitchen worktop out of habit.

So we decided to leave her in a quiet room, but when we went to check that she was alright, there were spots of blood on the floor (a bit like the blood spots bitches leave behind when they're in season), which I have to admit is really worrying us.

I called my vet who told me it can happen and not to worry, and that I should bring her in if it continues to bleed over the next few days, but I still can't help panicking!

Has this happened to any of you before? I’m terrified one of her stitches has popped...

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Thanks for the reply :) No more bleeding this morning, and she seems much brighter than yesterday. We're keeping a close eye on her and we'll head to the vet if we spot any more blood.

Hi, It’s true that a stitch can pop sometimes. Personally, I’d take her back to the vet, as post-op follow-up is usually included in the cost of the procedure. You wouldn’t want it to get infected if the wound is looking a bit bloody. Hang in there and keep us updated, thanks.
