Should my cat be vaccinated before being neutered?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to get my cat neutered (he’s nearly 4 years old), and I was wondering if he needs to be vaccinated before the procedure? Also, how much does neutering usually cost? I’ve done a bit of research and was told it’s about £60; I'd like to know what you all think?

Thanks in advance. Best regards,

Have a good day/evening.

    I prioritise neutering before vaccinations.

Thanks for your reply. No, he hasn't been vaccinated at all yet, but the plan is to do it 2 or 3 months after he's neutered. My vet also told me they don't do overnight stays since they’ll be keeping him in for the whole day anyway.

Evening, Has your cat really never been vaccinated before?! As for getting him vaccinated before being neutered, I’m not entirely sure, though I think it’s recommended rather than mandatory. Your cat should normally be vaccinated against cat flu and feline enteritis even if he stays indoors, and feline leukaemia (or even rabies) if he goes outside. Price-wise, it depends on which part of the country you're in, but I'd say between £60 and £80. I paid about £115 to have my cat neutered, but that included the leukaemia jab as well. You might have to pay extra for hospitalisation fees too. Also, remember to worm him and check for fleas before the appointment, otherwise the vet might charge you for the treatment if they find he's infested.
