My cat has a lump on his throat

Hi everyone,

I’m starting this thread because I’ve felt a very distinct lump on the left side of my 10-year-old cat's throat.

I don’t know if I’m worrying over nothing, but he threw up last night (it was just dry food), he sneezes about 2 or 3 times a day, and after every meal he licks his lips constantly. I’ve also noticed some hair loss and broken fur on his lower belly.

He hasn't lost his appetite yet, though.

I’m planning to book an appointment with the vet, but they’re closed this weekend.

I just wanted to get your thoughts in the meantime?

Thank you.

Hi, I’m posting this as a bit of a long shot to the person who started this thread. My cat has exactly the same thing, same symptoms, and I’d really like to know how it turned out for your little one? The vets can’t find what’s wrong with her, even after a biopsy...

    Hi,

A lump on a cat can have many causes, and the diagnosis will depend a lot on its size, consistency, appearance, and how it changes over time.

The appearance of a lump could be due to an abscess, which is especially common in cats that spend a lot of time outdoors, as it can result from an infected wound. In this case, it will need to be drained and the infection treated.

It could also be a cyst, which is a benign condition that might sometimes need to be removed if it interferes with the cat's swallowing, for example.

Finally, with a 10-year-old cat, we unfortunately can't rule out the possibility of a tumour—benign or otherwise—which would need to be analysed to determine the best course of treatment.

    Kind regards,

    Amélie
