A heartbreaking surrender
The elderly dogs were brought to the Cobb County Animal Services shelter in Georgia, USA. Their previous owners explained they were moving into an apartment and couldn't take the two dogs with them. As a result, Nikki, a Labrador, and Philly, a Chihuahua, spent their first night behind shelter bars, wondering where their family had gone.

A worrying diagnosis
Nikki and Philly are house-trained, used to home life, and get along well with children, other dogs, and cats. However, staff at the shelter are concerned. Finding homes for senior dogs can be incredibly difficult, and the pair face another hurdle in their search for a new family.
Both dogs have tested positive for heartworm disease. But rescue staff are keen to reassure potential adopters: families living in the state of Georgia will be able to access financial support for their heartworm treatment through the shelter.
The team hopes that a loving family will step forward to adopt them together and give them the second chance they deserve for their golden years. We are certainly crossing our fingers for them!
