Cat museum uses virtual reality to let visitors step into a feline's paws

By Elodie Carpentier•

A unique exhibition in Mexico is offering visitors the chance to experience life as a cat, thanks to virtual reality.

Located on the fourth floor of 87 Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City, the Museo del Gato (Cat Museum) has just opened its doors.

Designed as a one-year pop-up project, this unique venue combines cutting-edge technology, scientific education, and support for animal welfare.

A three-stage immersive journey

The 45-minute tour allows visitors to explore the lives of cats in several different ways:

Using animated dioramas and a video-mapping system designed by a local creative studio, one area retraces the evolution of felines and the history of their domestication.

Through a stray cat's eyes

Equipped with virtual reality headsets for the Perspectiva Felina VR experience, visitors are invited to explore the urban environment through the eyes and ears of a stray cat.

An interactive photo area features giant installations, such as a "Cat Lady" armchair, an animated sculpture that mimics a cat's breathing, and a digital wall where visitors can record their own pet's paw print.
