Sick stray cat found on the street, but his family ignore all the shelter's calls

This five-year-old cat was found wandering the streets all on his own.

The poor thing was severely underweight and very poorly.

Scanning his microchip

A local veterinary clinic took him in and scanned his microchip, which led them to the NAWS Humane Society shelter in Illinois, USA. The rescue team there was able to trace Ciao's history. He had been adopted by a family when he was just a tiny kitten, but four years later, he was left to fend for himself on the streets.

The shelter tried repeatedly to contact his adoptive family. Despite numerous calls, nobody answered, and no one came to collect the poor feline.

Almost unrecognisable

When the rescuers first saw Ciao, they were heartbroken. In fact, they could barely recognise him. He had lost patches of fur, and it was clear that the poor cat had spent a long time trying to survive on the streets alone.

Medical checks revealed that Ciao was malnourished and suffering from mange. The vets also discovered that he tested positive for FIV, a viral infection that gradually weakens a cat's immune system.

Despite everything he has been through, Ciao has never lost his love for people. He is an incredibly affectionate boy who is always looking for a cuddle. We hope this lovely cat will soon find a forever home that will give him the stability and love he truly deserves.
