In Park Slope, a neighbourhood in Brooklyn, New York, locals have made headlines after banding together to save a beloved kitten.
On Thursday 10 September, three-month-old Jabal was snatched from right outside his home.
Stolen in broad daylight
Jabal's owner runs a local corner shop, and the little kitten used to accompany him to work every day. CCTV footage captured the heartbreaking moment a man grabbed the tiny feline whilst he was outside the shop. Jabal tried desperately to wriggle free, but his abductor held on tight.
The man and an accompanying woman then walked off with the kitten in their arms. Jabal's owner searched everywhere for his companion, but to no avail. Thankfully, local residents and shop customers, who were used to seeing Jabal every day, quickly stepped in to help.
A community rallies together
Neighbours scoured the area and put up missing posters to track down the kitten. One neighbour even made posters with her children, who handed them out all over the local streets.
Their amazing efforts finally paid off. The woman who was with the man when the kitten was taken contacted Jabal's owner to offer to return him, claiming the whole incident was a "mistake". The kitten was handed in at the local police station, and officers personally escorted Jabal back home.
When his owner opened the carrier, the little creature immediately recognised him and rushed into his arms. We are so relieved that Jabal is finally back home after five days of pure agony for his family. It is heartwarming proof of what can be achieved when a community stands together for animal welfare!
