Strange noises from a car reveal a stowaway who travelled 75 miles in the engine

By Ludivine Mazzotti

On 5 September, employees at Peterson Health, a non-profit organisation in Texas, USA, made a very strange discovery.

One of the employees heard faint meowing as she was leaving work.

She alerted a colleague immediately, who came to help her find where the cries were coming from.

A very young stowaway

It turned out to be a tiny kitten who had taken refuge... inside the engine bay of an SUV. The vehicle belonged to one of the employees, who had just driven about 75 miles from Rocksprings to Kerrville. Throughout the entire journey, this tiny passenger was hidden right under the bonnet.

The employees contacted rescuers from the Kerrville Pets Alive shelter to report the situation, and they travelled to the scene as quickly as possible. They had to dismantle the vehicle's front grille. After this delicate operation, they finally managed to pull the little cat out safe and sound.

Safe and sound

The charity shared a reassuring update about the kitten on social media later. The tiny kitten is only a few days old. Fortunately, he is now safe and warm, snuggled up safely with his rescuers. He can finally sleep with a full tummy after being bottle-fed by his rescuers, as you can see in the video below.

Nobody knows how this tiny kitten ended up in the engine or how long he had been there. But one thing is for sure: he was incredibly lucky. We hope he grows up big and strong and finds his forever home very soon!
