The team set up several humane traps in the hope of catching the mother dog. As they searched the surrounding area, they eventually discovered six puppies huddled together amongst branches and brambles. The volunteers carefully gathered them up and wrapped them in a T-shirt to keep them warm.
Finally reunited
But the job wasn't finished yet, as they still needed to find the mother. Rescuers waited all evening... Finally, just before midnight, the sweet dog wandered into one of the traps! The poor girl was absolutely exhausted. She drank a whole bowl of water, ate hungrily, and then fell fast asleep while her babies nursed.
The family was finally reunited! The mother was named Jolene, and her six puppies were called Dolly, Bowie, Jagger, Ozzy, Olivia, and Prince. The whole little family is now being cared for by the Forgotten Paws of Northwest Arkansas shelter, safe and sound, far away from the dangers of the ditch and the motorway.
