Rescuers left speechless after being called in to help a bright yellow dog

By Ludivine Mazzotti

Rescuers from the Friends Forever Animal Rescue shelter in New York State, USA, recently carried out an extraordinary rescue.

They shared their confusion on their Facebook page: "What is it? How? Why?"

Animal control officers in Syracuse first discovered the female dog, who had been left all alone in an abandoned flat.

Shocking photos

The officers sent photos of the dog to the team at Friends Forever Animal Rescue, who were left utterly shocked. The dog, whom they named Amarillo, was bright yellow from head to toe. Nobody could explain how or why. The rescuers considered several theories, such as a dye or some kind of external substance that had stained her fur.

Sadly, her strange appearance was not her only problem. Amarillo was completely dehydrated, and her claws were far too long. It was clear that the poor dog had been neglected for a very long time. Yet, despite her terrible living conditions, the little dog was surprisingly affectionate, cheerful, and desperate for attention.

Sixteen baths later

The rescuers set to work washing her coat. It took seven baths before the yellow colouring finally started to fade. In the end, sixteen baths later, the yellow colour had almost completely gone. Amarillo finally returned to her natural look, with a coat that is now shiny and healthy.

This lovely dog gets on well with children, dogs, and cats, and she absolutely loves going for walks and having adventures. We hope she finds her forever home very soon.
