It is a truly unbelievable story. In the United States, a dog has been found locked inside a mailbox.
At first, the team at the rescue centre in Richmond, Virginia, could not believe the news. "We thought it was a joke," director Christie Peters told reporters.
A shocking discovery
However, on arrival, volunteers and staff were shocked to find the little dog inside the mailbox. The Yorkshire Terrier had been left inside a soft fabric pet carrier.
An investigation is underway
The owners of the mailbox had not realised she was there until the rescue centre intervened.
Miraculously, the dog showed no obvious signs of physical suffering. She is an adorable little creature who has melted the hearts of everyone at the shelter.
Named "Mail Order Bride", the dog is expected to be put up for adoption soon.
Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched to try and find the person who shamelessly abandoned her in the mailbox.
