Abandoned in a heatwave, dog's gesture to his cat friend brings viewers to tears

By Ludivine Mazzotti

When staff at the Hamilton Humane shelter in Indiana, USA, arrived for work on the morning of 3 June, they did not expect to find two abandoned animals in their car park.

The two animals had been abandoned heartlessly overnight.

They were Boris, a six-month-old puppy, and Jenkins, a two-year-old cat.

Scorching temperatures

The poor animals were exposed to the dangers of the street and the summer heat. They had been left without shelter, water, or any way to get into the shade. When rescuers arrived, Boris placed his paw gently on Jenkins, as if to reassure and protect him during this ordeal.

It is worth remembering that extreme heat can cause heatstroke in just a few minutes for dogs and cats. Their bodies regulate temperature less efficiently, especially when they are deprived of water and shelter.

Fortunately, Boris and Jenkins were saved in time. They were taken in quickly by the shelter team and received all the care they needed.

A happy ending

The sight of Boris placing his paw gently to comfort Jenkins moved the rescuers deeply. They took a photo quickly to share on social media. People online reacted in their thousands to the scene, seeing the gesture as a symbol of the exceptional bond between the two animals.

There is good news, as rescuers revealed that both animals found a loving home quickly! After facing abandonment and fear together, Boris and Jenkins finally got what they deserved from the start: a second chance and a life filled with love.
