The moment he lifted the bonnet, a black shape shot out of the vehicle. The man quickly realised it was a panicked black cat.
An unexpected discovery
But that wasn't all. Nestled inside were four tiny kittens, only a few weeks old. Their mum must have thought it was a safe place for her little ones, but sadly, that wasn't the case at all. Although the old car was no longer running, it was parked in a busy lane with cars speeding past.
The man called the Celia Hammond Animal Trust (CHAT) for help. Rescuers arrived with treats to try and coax the panicked mother cat out, but she refused to eat anything while they were there.
A tricky rescue
For four days, the rescue team tried various tactics to bring the family to safety, but the mother cat remained out of reach. One day, she didn't return to care for her kittens, and they feared the worst. The rescuers decided to take the four kittens back to the shelter.
Fortunately, they managed to catch the mother cat later that day. As soon as she was reunited with her kittens, she instantly relaxed. She began to groom and feed them right away. The brave mum was named Shadow, and her four little ones were named Mini, Beetle, Morris, and Brum. For now, they are all resting at the shelter before heading to a foster home. We wish them all the best for the future.
