Back in March, Paul was carrying out a rescue of some stray cats that had been reported by a local woman.
She had spotted a colony of strays that were coming to her house looking for food.
An unexpected discovery
Paul set two humane traps and managed to safely secure two pregnant stray cats. Just then, the woman who had contacted him mentioned that she could hear crying coming from under a concrete slab near her front door.
So, Paul grabbed a torch and lifted the slab. At first, he could only see one kitten, but then he made out three. In the end, Paul rescued a total of seven kittens that morning! He certainly hadn't expected to return from his rescue mission with so many cats.
Searching for mum
Paul took the kittens to a vet to be examined. They were only three or four weeks old. Sadly, the mother cat ran off when she saw Paul rescuing her little ones. He knew she wouldn't go near the trap, so he had to come up with another plan.
The kittens were placed in the care of Amy Collins, a volunteer experienced in bottle-feeding kittens. She also treated them for the eye infections they were suffering from.
Thanks to Amy's care, all the kittens are now thriving. Meanwhile, Paul is still actively trying to rescue their mother, hoping she will learn to trust him very soon!
