Inside the carrier were a mother cat and her kittens.
The person immediately did the right thing and contacted the rescuers at Catz 4 Life for help.
A last-chance rescue
The rescue was a close call. Without human intervention, the cat family would not have survived. Rescuers arrived at the scene and were able to quickly bring the entire little family to safety.
The mother cat, now named Mackerel, and her kittens were examined by a vet. Despite their terrible ordeal, they were all doing well. After spending a full weekend at the clinic, Mackerel and the kittens were placed in a foster home.
Playful personalities emerge
Finally comfortable in a home with beds, cosy blankets, and toys, they began to show their true colours. The rescuers soon realised that even though Mackerel is a mother, she is still very much a kitten herself.
In less than two months, the kittens have grown into adorable young cats, ready for their new lives. They will soon be vaccinated and neutered, and will then be ready to join their forever homes!
