Everything was going well until she suddenly noticed some movement on the side of the road.
It was two puppies, left all on their own without a person in sight. They were miles from the nearest house.
Gaining their trust
Leandra stopped and spoke to them in a soft, gentle voice for 30 minutes before the puppies decided to trust her. Once they realised she was there to help, they came closer, asking for cuddles.
Leandra gave them some water, which they drank eagerly. This seemed to calm them down, and they quickly snuggled up to her. The next step was to find a way to get them help. The young woman called a local rescue centre to ask if they could take the puppies in, and they agreed.
A trip to the rescue centre
Leandra then placed them on her bike. She put one in a rucksack on her back and the other in her pannier, before setting off for the rescue centre, which was 5 miles away. Leandra had to stop on the way to move the puppy from the pannier and put him with his brother in the rucksack, as he was crying too much.
As soon as the puppy was reunited with his brother, he calmed down immediately. The two little ones even fell asleep for the rest of the journey. Leandra dropped the puppies off at the rescue centre, where the staff took over their care. As Leandra said in her video, she's going to miss the two pups!
