A worrying discovery
On the 4th of February, passers-by spotted a lone dog near a deserted shopping centre. The animal had no shelter or protection from the cold.
After being alerted, officers from the Havelock Police Department in the US and local animal control officers went to the scene to rescue the dog, as reported by Newsweek.
When the dog was taken to a vet, the police discovered that he was microchipped.
A public appeal for information
However, despite this form of identification, the authorities were unable to contact the owner. The police tried to get in touch with them several times, but received no response.
While waiting for new leads, the local police have issued a public appeal for any information regarding the dog's abandonment.
The authorities have issued a reminder that abandoning a pet is not only cruel
