A fortunate mistake

Back in 2019, after filling up their car with petrol, Andrew and Paula Hancock were on their way home when they realised they had forgotten something: to buy food for their cat, Shortcake.

The couple, who live in England, decided to turn back to buy some food for their moggy. While they were there, they bought a scratch card on a whim. It turned out to be a brilliant idea, as they won a whopping £1,000,000!

A new life

So, it was all thanks to their cat – described as a bit of a fighter and not usually very lucky – that the couple's lives were changed forever. Gone were their financial worries. For now, Andrew and Paula haven't made any big purchases, apart from a new smartphone for their son. But they do plan to use the money to travel the world.

As for Shortcake, he now enjoys gourmet cat food and has become a bit of a local celebrity.
